So, I’m leaving today for Haiti. It’s been a whirlwind last five days from acting in a grad school short film to a great concert night out to creating a video about the Big Brother/Little Brother program to wrapping up an eight-month, spiritual formation class and being commissioned for this mission trip at my church. I’m also working up until the last hour before I head for the airport. Somehow in the middle of all these great things, I have managed to purchase supplies and hopefully pack all that’s necessary for me to leave today.
Before I catch my plane, I would like to share my prayers for this trip. If you would partner with me in prayer for these ten days (April 28th-May 8th) that would be a huge blessing, and I know there’s power in that. Please pray for the following:
• Our team will work well together despite having never met before.
• Overall health and safety for us as we serve.
• Protection from severe weather and insects/mosquitoes. I am particularly allergic to all insect bites and stings but I’m prepared with medication. I’m probably one of the only Eagle Scouts allergic to bugs and much of the outdoors, so this type of adventure is always risky for me.
• God would use my gifts, skills, and talent set to help in any way I can. As a non-medical member of a medical mission team, my role is undefined.
• Spiritual and emotional strength
• Positive impact in country and on our return. The needs are so great there, and hopefully we can do a lot in a short period of time. I also plan to have my high school film students create a documentary from my trip footage, and I know that could have impact as well.
• Christ would be glorified through the entire trip.
My friend Andy said something during his sermon last weekend that I think applies to how I’m feeling right now. There’s a part of me that feels unworthy and unprepared. Andy said it’s at those moments that God says to us: “I love you. I got this.” I sense that in a big way. I trust that He will provide for all my needs and help me to meet the needs of others on this humbling adventure. Thanks in advance for your prayers!
Praying for you and your team as you minister in Haiti!
ReplyDeleteMark, you got our prayers. You are prepared in your unpreparedness. It is always good to have the butterflies before the big game. Then you know its time for Jesus to come in and make the play!
